2017 Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition Results

The results are in for the 31st Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition!

The winning teams were announced at an awards ceremony earlier this afternoon, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Sinnissippi Park in Rockford, Illinois.

Chilly Trio team of George Harnish (Co-Captain), Fran Volz (Co-Captain), and Danica Rogers won the 31st Annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition with their sculpture titled "The Huntress." Chilly Trio will also advance to the 2018 U.S. Nationals Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

In all ten state teams, fifteen high school teams, and one exhibition team (the winner of last year’s Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition) participated in the January 25 – 28, 2017 event.

Viewing Information

Sinnissippi Park is open to the public for sculpture viewing while weather permits. Viewing hours are daily from sunrise until 11:00 p.m. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome. Visitors may drive or walk through the park; visitors are encouraged to take the time to walk through, to maximize their experience, and allow them to view the sculptures from all sides. Limited parking is available at Sinnissippi Park. Additional parking is available at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens just west of Sinnissippi Park across N. Second St.

The Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition is hosted by the Rockford Park District, and receives tremendous support from the community through financial and in-kind donations. Major donors/sponsors for 2017 are ABC Catering, Catalyst Design & Photography, Cliffbreakers Riverside Hotel & Conference Center, Creative Crane and Rigging, Giovanni’s Restaurant & Convention Center, Lino’s, Olympic Tavern, Rock River Water Reclamation District, Scandroli Construction, Stockholm Inn, Texas Roadhouse, William Charles Construction, WIFR-TV, and Winnebago County Highway Department.
